In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Getty Grant winners, unsupported Raw formats, the return of two vacationers and Marc Levoy's class on digital photography.

  • In Getty Images Announces Grant Winners for 2016, James Estrin presents 19 images from the photographers who won $10,000 Getty Grants for personal projects that focus on social issues.
  • In What To Do When New Cameras Are Released, Joey Miller covers you options when your new camera's Raw format isn't supported by your image editing software. DNG Converter is your friend for older software.
  • The vacationers are back. Thom Hogan squirms on being called an expert by Mike Johnston and Kirk Tuck claims he missed his daily keyboard exercise. But Julieanne Kost won't be back until Oct. 4 as she enjoys her two-month Adobe sabbatical.
  • Stanford professor Marc Levoy's 18 Lectures on Digital Photography based on his CS 178 Digital Photography course are online. "Taking photographs and improving your picture-taking skills are a good reason for taking this course," he nudges. No prerequisites either.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
