In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Ask A Curator Day, DNG captures in Lightroom, lens flaws and how to become Instagram famous.
- Today is Ask A Curator Day -- and it's a worldwide event. There are 408 museums participating in the U.S., for example, including the Getty, Center for Photography at Woodstock, the de Young, the George Eastman Museum, Griffin Museum of Photography, International Center of Photography, Museum of Photographic Arts, the National Archives, SFMOMA, SFO Museum, Santa Barbara Museum of Art, Smithsonian, The Center for Fine Art Photography, among others. Just use the hashtag #AskaCurator on Twitter for general questios or questions to specific museums using the @museum-name, which you can find on the link above.
- Several camera apps have been updated to support Raw captures in iOS 10. But in Now You Can Shoot Raw on iPhone!, Terry White demonstrates Raw captures using Lightroom's built-in camera on the iPhone:
- Roger Cicala asks Is Your Camera Really The Best Optical Test?. The answer? "In a nutshell, you can now take a picture with a high-resolution camera and see defects in the lens that might not have been apparent on your last camera. The manufacturer or service center often still use crude optical tests that don't show the defect."
- Emil Pakarklis explains How To Become Instagram Famous In Three Easy Steps. No animals were hurt during the filming of this feature.
We've also updated our Calendar today and there's always more to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
