Wired magazine has unveiled a new design for its Photo homepage featuring photo ribbons that open up with a parallax effect as you scroll down the page. When selected, the homepage photo ribbon expands into a new, full-bleed gallery, scaling edge-to-edge on any screen.

"Photography is an integral part of how Wired tells stories and a key component of what we do. We felt it deserved its own unique canvas," said Scott Dadich, Wired editor in chief. "Now, no matter what screen you're using, Wired offers one of the best photo viewing experiences on the Web."

Wired has featured the work of award-winning photographers Dan Winters, Elinor Carucci, Joe Pugliese, Cait Oppermann, Art Streiber, Bryan Derballa, James Day and Platon, as well as a mix of established and emerging international artists, including Reuben Wu, Glenna Gordon, Michael Najjar and Sarker Protick.

Wired Unveils Redesigned 'Photo' Site for Immersive Visual Experience Across All Screens

Wired magazine has unveiled a fully redesigned Photo site featuring a reimagined homepage and new, full-bleed photo galleries on Wired.com.

The new Photo homepage is strikingly different from Wired's other section fronts. Instead of the traditional front-page style of a Web site, Wired Photo features photo ribbons that open up with a subtle parallax effect as users scroll down the page. Once selected, the homepage photos expand to reveal a new, full-bleed photo gallery. Each image is surrounded by a dark border that allows photos to appear brighter and more vibrant. Photos now scale edge-to-edge, taking advantage of the maximum amount of space in any browser window or display size. Caption text can also be displayed or hidden, based on preference.

"Photography is an integral part of how Wired tells stories and a key component of what we do. We felt it deserved its own unique canvas," said Scott Dadich, editor in chief, Wired. "Now, no matter what screen you're using, Wired offers one of the best photo viewing experiences on the Web."

Wired regularly features the work of award-winning photographers, including Dan Winters, Elinor Carucci, Joe Pugliese, Cait Oppermann, Art Streiber, Bryan Derballa, James Day and Platon, as well as a mix of established and emerging international artists, including Reuben Wu, Glenna Gordon, Michael Najjar and Sarker Protick.

Prior to the redesign, Wired Photo drew five percent of monthly site traffic, with higher-than-average click-through rates.

In 2016, Wired was awarded the National Magazine Award for Best Design (the fourth ASME win in the Design category under Dadich's leadership), ten Society of Publication Designers Awards, eight American Photography Awards and two Webby's, including Best Visual Web site.
