In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention (with more than 140 characters). This time we look at Mexico City, Photoville, branded stories in Spark, the Think Tank Spectral 10, scanning in Notes and Adobe's Founders' Award Recipients.

  • In Photos of the Earthquake in Mexico City, Alan Taylor presents 40 images of the aftermath, updated from yesterday. September has not been kind to the planet, raining devastating hurricanes, fires and earthquakes on its inhabitants. We talk about "recovery" but the truth is that each affected life is changed forever. So these images are not so much about the devastation as our resiliency to carry one.
  • Global Voices and Emerging Photographers at Photoville presents 11 photographers from the show, all of whom were participants in this year's New York Portfolio Review, a free event sponsored by The New York Times Lens blog and The City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism.
  • Amy Copperman explains How to Create Branded Stories in Spark. In our test drive, we focused on marketing collateral since stories in Photo Corners are already recognizably ours.
  • In A Hands on Review of the Think Tank Spectral 10, Derrick Story takes the bag on location. "Because the bag isn't too thick, it hugs my body nicely while working," he enthuses. Keep in mind, though, that Story is nine and a half feet tall, so your body might not merely be hugged.
  • Christian Zibreg explains How to Scan Documents in iOS 11 Notes App. He covers manual and automatic scanning, presets, editing scans, adjusting preview size, adding scans to a bundle, copying scans, changing filters, rotating scans, deleting scans, recovering deleted scans, renaming bundles, annotating scans, converting them to PDFs, sharing them, and more.
  • Adobe has announced its 2017 Founders' Award Recipients, employees who embody the company's "four core values: Genuine, Exceptional, Innovative and Involved."

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
