In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the top 25 news photos, the shooting experience, Helen Levitt, Tuck's two favorite lenses and a Rocky Nook deal.
- Alan Taylor presents the Top 25 News Photos of 2017. Hard to scroll them, it was such an ugly year, but it was great to see Number 19 again. If nothing else (and it should be the Photo of the Year), it demonstrates how to hand an ugly year.
- Ming Thein considers The Shooting Experience from the perspective of having the "shot confidence" to "nail the images" as well as the confidence you'll be able to get the "maximum output out of the system."
- In This Pioneering Woman Photographer Found Home in the Sweet Security of the Streets, Rian Dundon presents a few of Helen Levitt's images from One, Two, Three, More.
- Kirk Tuck picks his favorite lenses of the year: the Olympus Pro series 12-100mm f4.0 and the Olympus Pro series 40-150mm f2.8.
- Through the end of the month Rocky Nook will take 40 percent off your order when you use the code HOLIDAY17.
We're running the public service notice below to remind Americans they can sign up for the American Health Care until Dec. 15 to be insured in 2018.
