In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Chris Hondros, lighting, TetherBlock, a lens sale and Trevor Paglen.
- In A New Documentary Honors the Work and Life of Photojournalist Chris Hondros, Alan Taylor presents 21 photos by Getty photographer Chris Hondros, who was killed on assignment in Libya in 2011 along with Tim Hetherington. The recently-released film Hondros tells his story. Here's the trailer:
- Kirk Tuck muses about Last Saturday's Photo Assignment where the light was more important than the gear. Shooting an MRI, "We could not put lights in the room and we had to shoot from just outside the door which isn't the best recipe for composing a great image!" he writes.
- Terry White advises TetherBlock Can Save You From an Expensive DSLR Repair. And, he adds, a right-angle tether cable.
- Lloyd Chambers is having another lens sale with glass from Zeiss, Leica, Voigtlander, Nikon, Canon, Olympus, Rodenstock and Schneider. There's a Nikon D810 in there, too, for $2,000.
- Pier 24 is hosting a free lecture with Trevor Paglen as part of its Larry Sultan Visiting Artist Program on Friday at 7 p.m. at the Minnesota Street Projects in San Francisco. Paglen developed a method of "limit telephotography," which uses high-power telescopes in combination with cameras, to photograph secret prisons and military bases.
