In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Federica Armstrong, Elise Swopes, Peter Funch, GIMP 2.10.0 RC and Foxconn.

  • In The Superfund Sites of Silicon Valley, Evelyn Nieves talks to photographer Federica Armstrong about her images of the 23 toxic Superfund sites in the area. "We are used to taking for granted the safety of the environment we inhabit. I feel the need to pay more attention to it," she says.
  • In How Swopes Creates Unique Perspectives for Instagram, Terri Stone asked Chicago-based photographer Elise Swopes, who uses only her phone, "to make something for us that expresses women's perspective." In the embedded video, Swopes details the 19-step photo collage she made for Stone on her phone.
  • TBW Books has published Peter Funch's 42nd and Vanderbilt where, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. from 2007 to 2016, the Danish photographer photographed the same people going to work each day. 160 pages.
  • GIMP 2.10.0 Release Candidate 1 Released. "With more than 750 commits since the 2.9.8 development version from mid-December, the focus has really been on getting the last details right," according to the announcement.
  • Jacob Kastrenakes reports Foxconn Buys Belkin, Linksys and Wemo. The acquisition of Belkin, which bought Linksys in 2013 and offers the Wemo smart home system, is subject to approval from the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment.
