In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Martin Luther King Jr., Balkan land mines, Marilyn Monroe, street photography tips, the $11 Wein WP1000 Flashmeter and macOS 10.13.4 disabling external monitors.
- Alan Taylor presents 35 photos of The Riots That Followed the Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. 50 years ago.
- In The 'Endless War' of Land Mines in the Balkans, Evelyn Nieves talks to Rome-based photographer Rocco Rorandelli who discovered rural landscapes plagued by land mines as he documented the Balkan journey of Syrian refugees from Greece to Germany.
- Marilyn Monroe? Apparently so. Yesterday Mike Johnston wrote about a Limited Edition Headshot of Marilyn Monroe by Lawrence Schiller and today Luisa Rollenhagen reveals the star of another era Wearing a Potato Sack.
- Robin Wong has some Tips From Street Photography Workshops. "Sometimes what sets a good photographer apart, is not necessarily skill with the camera, but preparation and foresight," he writes.
- You can snag a Wein WP1000 Flashmeter for $11 at KEH right now. It has the features of the WP-500B (which sells new for $99 on Amazon) but range is increased to f90, readings are accurate to 1/6 of an f-stop and it can be hand-calibrated. James Ollinger has a nice write-up about it.
- "We are aware that installing macOS release Version 10.13.4 will cause DisplayLink connected displays to go blank after the OS upgrade," the company warns users in a support message. And Duet Display has the same problem, which was reported to Apple during beta testing.
