In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Geoff Dyer on Garry Winogrand, Pond5, photo detritus and baseball in Cuba.
- In /Library/WebServer/Documents/My Site/Corners/2018/04, Jordan Teicher interviews Geoff Dyer about his new book The Street Philosophy of Garry Winogrand which pairs each of 100 images with an essay by Dyer. Which would be just the tip of that iceberg.
- If You Can See It, We Can Match It, Pond5 promises. Its AI-based visual search can match any video or still you upload (try a Smartphone capture on site) with an image in its collection. Or you can install a browser extension (Chrome, Firefox now; Safaris soon) to do the work:
- Kirk Tuck reflects on How Photo Detritus Builds Up and what to do about it. Who would recognize the people in all those shoeboxes of prints in some nearly forgotten-about closet?
- National Geographic photographer Ira Block has put together over 100 images in Cuba Loves Baseball. The photos cover everything from grass roots ball to pro teams, from portraits of old-timers to children playing in the street and from fans at stadiums to vendors working the game.
More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
