In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Sammons on Route 66, Chester Maharaj, the PolarPro Katana and vintage photos of cats.
- In Rick & Susan Sammon Hit the Road, the Sammons share some of our favorite photographs from two Arizona/New Mexico Route 66 road trips, each illustrating a photo tip. The tips are from their latest book, The Route 66 Road Trip -- How to Eat, Sleep, Stay, Play and Shoot Like a Pro.
- It's Teacher Appreciation Week and to celebrate students of Chester Maharaj, who teaches photography at Godinez Fundamental High School in Santa Ana, Calif., surprised him with a tribute he'll never forget:
- Derrick Story used the $50 PolarPro Katana with his Spark's two-axis gimbal for stabilized handheld video. The device mounts your smartphone to serve as a video monitor with the DJI GO app.
- It's a slow news week. We scratched and clawed for another item before we found Willard Culver's Vintage Photos of Pampered Cats published in National Geographic in 1938. They were unusual for their use of synchronized flash. The cats, of course, took it all in stride.
We've also updated our Calendar last night and there's always more to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
