IMS Vintage Photos is offering its historical archive photographs for sale worldwide for the first time in 100 years. The company said it is the first in Europe to develop advanced technology to digitize and catalog thousands of images a day.

Vintage Car. Note the car is vintage but the image is younger than the car (see the newer model in the background).

"It is truly unbelievable some of the photographs we see as we are unpacking the archives we are working on," said Arnaldur Gauti Johnson, managing director of IMS Vintage Photos. "It is such a shame that these images have not been accessible to the public before.

"But at the same time we are proud to be digitizing them so they can be preserved forever. So many images have been lost during the last decades in water damage and fire. It is at the same time truly great that now when so many things are mass produced, that we can offer people something truly unique and historical. All these photographs are collectibles that are great for decoration, personal gifts or even as an investment for the future."

We optimized the image above for publication, enhancing the contrast of the flat scan. With a digital purchase, however, you can do things like that. Even add a color cast, if you want.

No information was provided with this image but IMS Vintage does show the scan of the back of images where information has been recorded, common with press photos.

Founded in 1948 as a picture agency, IMS Vintage is today a trusted resource for original historical photographs. The company buys collections of photos for digitization and sale. Its original vintage photographs from press archives all over the world feature a wide range of subjects including celebrities, movies, culture, design and more.

Prices area as low as $20 an image. But the terms and conditions state, "These pictures are only for sale as products -- not for any kind of publishing, usage or similar."

Icelandic Co. IMS Vintage Photos Offering Rare Heritage Photos for Sale for the First Time in 100 Years
