In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Weegee, street photography tips, Instant Magny 35 and Leica Illuminated.

  • Beyond Murder and Mayhem: The Lighter Side of Weegee presents a few of Arthur Fellig's more amusing peeks at life in the city. Chris Bonanos, who has just published a biography of Weegee, writes, "I came to believe that many of his more lighthearted pictures of his fellow New Yorkers, while not his most famous, are some of his best."
  • Robin Wong offers five Less Obvious Street Photography Tips, all of which hit nails on their heads. It's easy to get lost in the trees of click-bait advice on the Web but Wong's advice helps you navigate the forest.
  • NINM Lab has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its Instant Magny 35, which mimics the old Nikon Speed Magny to replace the back on your 35mm film camera with an enlarging optic film back attached to an aluminum lens barrel connected to a film ejection unit. Compatible cameras include SLRs and rangefinders from Leica, Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Pentax. Cute video:
  • Leica has launched Illuminated, a new interactive campaign that sends seven photographers to a city previously unknown to them with a Leica Q. Each photographer explores the city, its people and culture to document what they discover. New York City, Singapore and Sydney are already posted and there's more to come.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
