In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the Latin American Foto Festival, Couture Week, exposure strategies for the D850, 35mm vs. medium format, Moment's photo app and the Microsoft Surface Go.
- In Overlooked Stories From Latin American Photographers, Evelyn Nieves visits the South Bronx's Melrose neighborhood, which "is becoming a gallery, inside and out" during the Latin American Foto Festival.
- T's Best Photographs From Couture Week celebrates the fashion event which came to a close in Paris on Wednesday with 30 images. And one of them is a suit of armor.
- In the first of three posts on the subject, Jim Kasson suggests some Exposure Strategies for the D850 whose Sony sensor uses DR-Pix conversion gain changing technology licensed from Aptina.
- In a new set of comparative videos made by Hasselblad, photographer Karl Taylor shows the differences between 35mm format and medium format. Here's the first one:
- The Moment photo app for Android and iOS offers "big camera controls" like full manual exposure, ISO, shutter speed, focus and white balance (your phone likely has only one aperture alas). It supports Raw capture on phones that offer it and enables manual focus (again a little disappointing on built-in wide angle lenses but that's why Moment makes lenses). The download is free with in-app purchases.
