In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Latif Al Ani, ice cream, a roadtrip across the western U.S., sexual harassment in photojournalism and ACR shortcuts.
- In Picturing Iraq in a Bygone Era, Tim Arango presents the work of Latif Al Ani, 86, who "is regarded as the founder of Iraqi photography." He sometimes find his 1950s-era prints among the stalls of Mutanabbi Street.
- Getty Images' Foto remembers Ice Cream's Early Days. "The hallmark of childhood, first dates and work breaks has been around since before there were cameras to record it, but these early photos of folks and their cones should give you a taste of what ice cream's early days were like."
- Jason Kottke posted Some Reflections on My Roadtrip Across the Western United States with a set of enticing images to illustrate it. "I drove across the western United States, from Iowa to Oregon, over the course of 10 days," he begins.
- Kristen Chick reports on the industry's sexual harassment problem in Photojournalism's Moment of Reckoning. In over 50 interviews over more than five months, photojournalists described behavior from editors and colleagues that "ranged from assault to unwanted advances to comments on their appearance or bodies when they were trying to work."
- Julieanne Kost has posted A Complete Guide to Shortcuts for Adobe Camera Raw in both a handy list and a 10-page PDF.
