In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Rescuers, the Toyohashi Gion festival, macrophotography, legal street photography, editing advice and smartphone editing apps.
- In Risking Torture and Death to Save Jews During the Holocaust, Jonathan Blaustein presents a few portraits by Gay Block from Rescuers, a 30-year-old project honoring non-Jewish Europeans who risked torture and death to save Jews during the Holocaust.
- Alan Taylor presents 20 photos of Japan's Fiery Toyohashi Gion Festival.
- In Shot Discipline Revisited by Robin: Macrophotography, Robin Wong expands on Ming Thein's original article. "There is no simplification of the shooting process and there is no compromise possible if you want to achieve the best results," he writes.
- Mickey Osterreicher discusses Street Photography and the Law from the perspective of a lawyer. "While street photography itself may not be a crime or create a cause for a civil action, what a photographer does with those images may create legal consequences in several other areas," he writes.
- David Williams shares My Best Piece of PS Advice, which is a spin on "less is more" applied to Raw file edits.
- Gannon Burgett lists The Best Photo-Editing Apps for Android and iOS. Six of them.
