In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at hiding photos on iOS, iToolBox for macOS, calculating your hourly rate and Steve Huff.

  • Brie Barbee explains How to Hide Photos on Your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch using Photos and, for more security, third-party apps.
  • iToolBox is a free macOS 10.11+ image editing application for Raw, PNG and JPEG files. "It offers an extensive layering system of my own design with some interesting features like non-destructive geometric warp layers," the author says.
  • Ryan Robinson has published How to Calculate Your Freelance Hourly Rate, an infographic that steps you through the math to derive an hourly rate. Both the self-employment tax and $4,800 in healthcare costs are included, making up nearly half of the new expenses freelancing involves.
  • In People Are Strange, Steve Huff reflects on 11 years of covering the digital photography world with non-technical gear reviews. He's talking about other people, of course. But, after a week of new product announcements from Leica, Nikon and Panasonic, his advice is worth repeating. "My words of advice? Enjoy your camera. Use it," he writes. And today would be a good day to practice that advice, too.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
