The British Journal of Photography has announced the 100 winners of its "Portait of Britain" photo contest. Now in its third year, British Journal of Photography will publicize the nationwide exhibition on Sept. 1 across JCDecaux's national channel of digital screens where the public will encounter the winning photographs in rail stations, shopping malls, high streets and at Heathrow airport.

Following an open call by British Journal of Photography earlier this year, over 13,000 portraits were submitted from which judges selected the 200 shortlisted images. All 200 images will be printed in the first Portrait of Britain book, published by Hoxton Mini Press, which will be released Sept. 6.

The range of images selected reflects the diversity of modern Britain with portraits ranging from Alexander Flemming's photograph of Roy taking his African gray parrot to the beach in Devon for rehabilitation to Euan Myles' portrait of Daniel, a Nigerian marine biologist working in Sutherland in the far north of Scotland.

Public figures including Will Young and Zandra Rhodes feature in this years selection, but the majority of the photographs are of everyday people, some who were met by chance on the street, such as Nick Simpson's image of The General, who he encountered walking down Holloway Road early one Saturday morning.

Locations where the images will be seen include major rail hubs, including Euston, King's Cross, Liverpool Street, London Bridge, St. Pancras, Victoria and Waterloo in both London and Brighton, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool Lime Street, Manchester Piccadilly, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, to name a few.

The exhibition will also be showcased on retail screens across the UK, including major shopping destinations such as Bluewater, intu Lakeside, St David's (Cardiff), Liverpool One, Trinity Leeds, Eldon Square (Newcastle), intu Metrocentre (Newcastle), West Quay (Southampton), Brent Cross (London) and many more.

All of the winning photographers can be found in the Portrait of Britain Gallery.
