In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at newborn stars, Astronomy Photographer of the Year winners, Chiara Zonca, mirrorless systems and B&H PhotoPlus deals.

  • In Newborn Stars Blow Bubbles in the Cat's Paw Nebula, NASA's infrared Spitzer Space Telescope shows the nebula named for its large, round features that resemble a feline footprint. Estimates of its distance from Earth range from about 4,200 to about 5,500 light-years.
