In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Kane Hulse, women priests, Harold Davis, autofocus accuracy, phone battery health, Bieke Depoorter and a Rocky Nook deal.

  • In Marseille, London-based photography Kane Hulse "composes graphic photographs documenting urban reality in cities around the world." Inspired by Luigi Ghirri and William Eggleston, Kane quotes Monet, "What I bring back from here will be sweetness itself, white, pink and blue, all enveloped in this magical air."
  • In The Women Priests of the Church of Sweden, David Gonzalez interviews Juliette Robert about her series on the female Swedish clerics. "They said the first thing they had to do was to study theology and be equal to men in those studies," she says. "And then they found the theological foundation to say women should be allowed to be ordained."
  • Time Machine present two images Harold Davis manipulated with long exposures, a neutral density filter to cut down the daylight and both focus and focal-length manipulations during exposure.
  • Jim Kasson continues his series on the Nikon Z 7 with Z 7 AF Accuracy Compared to dSLRs. It's off-the-charts better than a dSLR, he says, and tells why. Kasson's in-depth testing of the new system surpasses anything else we've read and he somehow remains accessible to readers. This piece, in fact, was in response to a reader query.
  • In One Year Later: Battery Health Check-In With My iPhone X, Derrick Story reports on his phone's battery health after he quit charging overnight.
  • Pier 24 will host Belgian photographer Bieke Depoorter whose photographs straddle portraiture, documentary and fiction for a free lecture at the California College of the Arts on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
  • Rocky Nook is offering 40 percent off on Pose!, featuring 1,000 poses for photographers and models. Sections cover women, men, couples, maternity and families. Both print and ebook versions are available separately and bundled.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
