6 November 2018

Leica has announced the Leica Q-P, another iteration of its Leica Q, this time with a matte black body that omits the company's signature red dot. The traditional Leica script remains on the top plate.

The body isn't just black, though, the company points out. It features improved ergonomics and a more tactile grip. In addition, the Shutter Release button and Power Switch/Drive Mode selector has been redesigned to resemble the Leica M10 and CL. Each control clicks into place when going solely by feel and touch.

In The Shape of the Street, Philipp Reinhard uses the new Q-P to create a series of images combining a street photography process with a focus on architectural forms and compositions.

The New Leica Q-P: An Artful Statement of Understatement

A refined design and kit for Leica Camera's celebrated full-frame compact Leica Q

Known for its perfect balance of performance and handling, the Leica Q-P builds on the critically acclaimed technical features of the Leica Q, now dressed in a stealthy yet elegant black body with improved tactility at the photographer's fingertips. The new Leica Q-P sets the bar for unobtrusive shooting in a fully-featured full frame compact camera, instilling confidence in its users to document any situation they may find themselves in.

With its matte black exterior, subtle design and superior imaging performance, the Leica Q-P goes beyond simple cosmetic changes to improve ergonomics and tactile feel for the user. Designed to be discreet, the front-facing Leica red dot logo is omitted in favor of the classic script engraving on the top plate, making the front of the camera a simple all-black facade. For more assured mechanical feedback, the shutter release button and power switch/drive mode selector has been redesigned; now more akin to those found on the Leica M10 and CL, each setting clicks into place with confidence even when going solely by feel and touch. The haptic experience of using the Leica Q-P is refined and honed from start to finish, from the new shutter release and textured matte paint finish to the new and exclusive brown leather carrying strap included with the camera -- made from the finest quality hide.

Due to its easy operation and fast autofocus, the Leica Q-P never misses the decisive moment. Discreet and versatile, the Leica Q-P aids photographers with capturing the perfect shot across a variety of genres including sports, concerts, weddings and photojournalism. The Leica Q-P is the "do-it-all" camera, with its simple button arrangement, compact-size, versatile prime lens and high-quality image results. The Leica Q-P comes packaged with a second rechargeable battery, to keep its users powered up and ready to take pictures all day and night long.

Known for its trailblazing camera design, which combines the high-performance qualities of a full frame sensor in an innovative compact camera, the Leica Q series makes for easy and intuitive handling. With the Leica Q-P, photographers are able to achieve optimum image results with the help of the 24-megapixel full frame sensor and fixed Summilux 28mm f1.7 ASPH lens. An integrated high-resolution 3.68-Mp EVF ensures that the photographer is always in control of the moment. The fast autofocus and burst shooting speed offered by the Leica Q-P ensure that the photographer is fully equipped for the unexpected moment. The camera also features an integrated WiFi module for remote control and digital transfer of still pictures and video to a smartphone with the new Leica FOTOS App on iOS and Android.

The Leica Q-P will be on sale beginning today at Leica Stores, Boutiques and dealers for $4,995.
