In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Remembrance Day, the Woolsey Fire, the Paris Photo/Aperture Foundation Photobook Awards, an ultra-wide lens, the Aura photo frame and Chambers' gear sale.

  • Remembrance Day: 100 Years, 100 Photos presents "100 images scanned from glass stereoviews, presented as easily-viewable stereo pairs, anaglyphs and 2D single-frame photographs for the non-stereographically-inclined."
  • Alan Taylor presents 35 photos of The Woolsey Fire in Malibu. The fire has burned over 80,000 acres, destroying at least 150 homes in the past few days. The Getty Villa and Center, including its archives, are safe but closed until further notice. "We have offered the Villa facilities as a place for fire crews to rest and recover," the Getty reports.
  • Masrigold Warner reports the winners of the 2018 Paris Photo/Aperture Foundation Photobook Awards have been announced. Laia Abril, Ursula Schulz-Dornburg and Stanley Walukai-Wanambwa took the top prizes with Pixy Liao garnering a special mention.
  • In The Infrequently Used, Vital Ultra-Wide Lens, Derrick Story saves a job with his 10-20mm Sigma, which happens to be on sale for $399.
  • Kim Wetzel gives the $299 Aura Photo Frame a thumbs up for "the quality look of the frame, the unlimited photo storage and the ability to add friends' and loved ones' photos."
  • Lloyd Chambers is having a Gear Sale of Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Leica lenses plus Rodenstock and Schneider view camera lenses.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
