In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Zanele Muholi, the Hubble Advent Calendar, Ansel Adams in Los Angeles, Autumn in Japan, a Wigglegram, journaling, Donald Blake and a call for entries.
- Maurice Berger continues his Race Series with a look at the self-portraits of Zanele Muholi. "Zanele Muholi's face is luminous -- and framed by a headdress of inflated latex gloves," he begins.
- Alan Taylor kicks off his 2018 Hubble Space Telescope Advent Calendar. "Every day until Tuesday, Dec. 25, this page will present one new incredible image of our universe from NASA's Hubble telescope."
- Mike McPhate presents several of Ansel Adams' Pictures of Los Angeles from 1939. "Adams captured more than 200 images for the assignment, many focused on the lunchtime rituals of factory workers along with everyday street scenes he encountered as he ambled about the rapidly developing region," he writes.
- In Autumn Again, Ming Thein post a few abstract landscapes shot with a Nikon D850 and 24-120mm VR Nikkor.
- On the same theme, Jeffrey Friedl posted A Peek at Not-Yet-Peak Autumn Colors in Japan and Valerie Wigglegram at the Eigenji Temple surrounded by fall leaves.
- In The Value of Journaling for Photographers, Derrick Story writes, "What started out as a way to record camera settings, location and weather conditions has evolved into a true accounting of my life."
- In And Now, Dear Friend, You Truly Do Live Amongst the Clouds, Joe McNally remembers Donald Blake who modeled for him at his Santa Fe workshops. "The camera loved him and he loved it right back," McNally writes.
- In Call for Entries: Win Your Own Gallery Showing, Scott Kelby announces "entries are now open for our gallery competition, and the winner gets their own solo gallery showing at The Gallery at KelbyOne, in Tampa, Florida, (including airfare and hotel for you and a guest)."
