In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Rome, more 2018 photos, Micaiah Carter, 1980s limo shots, a little light shaper, using Pantone's Color of the Year and a couple of job opportunities.
- In To Rome, With Love, Scott Kelby returns to the Eternal City to get some spectacular shots of the interior of St. Peter's Basilica (not to mention a few more familiar locations shot at night).
- Alan Taylor concludes his three-part series 2018 in Photos with Wrapping Up the Year. The final 40 images cover midterm U.S. elections, hurricanes and typhoons in Asia and North America, a contentious confirmation hearing for the U.S. Supreme Court, Brazil's election of Bolsonaro as president, a horrific attack on a synagogue in Pittsburgh and more.
- In Micaiah Carter's Iconic Photography Empowers a New Generation, Stephanie Wade explores Brooklyn-based fashion photographer Micaiah Carter blend of fine art, portrait and street photography. "I really want my photography to be a quality platform for representation of people of color that hasn't been seen before," Carter says.
- Living Large in the Limo, if Only for a Night collects Kathy Shorr's black-and-white images of her limo passengers in the 1980s.
- Joe McNally found The Best Little Light Shaper, which he helped design. He used it with the Nikon Z 7 camera and a pre-production S series 50mm f1.8 lens at f1 to get a stunning portrait on Bourbon St. in New Orleans.
- Jesús Ramirez shows how to use Pantone's Color of the Year (that would be Living Coral) in Photoshop as a a paint splash effect.
- Chris Gampat advises We're Still Hiring: Art Writer, Podcaster, and Video Producer at The Pholographer.
