In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at food production, Latin American women photographers, McNally in Manhattan, Matt Crump and imaging trends.

  • Nicolò Panzeri Photographs the Industrial Reality of Italian Food Production for his series Feed Us. But it's not quite what you imagine. Panzeri visited not just farms but manufacturing plants, and laboratories to get the picture.
  • In Creating a Community of Latin American Women Photographers, David Gonzalez profiles the online platform Foto Féminas founded by Verónica Sanchis Bencomo of the International Center of Photography. "With her eye focused on their images and not on their credentials or contacts, Sanchis Bencomo has convened a virtual community of experienced and emerging photographers alike whose styles range from documentary and photojournalism to fine art and conceptual photography," he writes.
  • Joe McNally goes Mirrorless in Manhattan to shoot a series on Manhattan-based jazz saxophonist Les Goodson with the Nikon Z 7. "I shot it available light, high ISO, with Speedlights, with big flash, in dim conditions, hand-held, with the native glass and my F mount glass and the FTZ adapter and, you know, it's a good tool. It works. That, to me, is high praise," he writes.
  • In Creative House Calls With Matt Crump, the digital artist takes you step-by-step through an edit of a photo that turns it into a vibrant animation.
  • Hans Hartmann lists Six Consumer Imaging Trends That Stood Out in 2018.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
