In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Nathan Lyons, Ventura Pier, the Nikon P1000, a Phase One contest, a software discount and free advice.
- In Nathan Lyons: An Irresistible Passion for Photography, Anne Wilkes Tucker reviews the new exhibit at George Eastman Museum where he was once director and curator.
- In Ventura Pier and Dark Sea, Harold Davis grab a 1/60 sec. shot (top) and a 30 second shot with his Nikon D850 before getting out of the rain. The 1/60 sec. shot was taken at ISO 64 and the 30 second shot at ISO 1600, an interesting combination.
- In The Nikon P1000 Is the Most Fun I've Had With a New Camera in Years, Zach Sutton explains, "This fixed lens camera compares in size to a full frame dSLR and holds a ludicrous 125x zoom, marking itself at 24-3000mm f2.8-f8 zoom." Nothing like a 125x zoom.
- You can Win a Fujifilm X-T20 and Capture One 12 when you share your image and the story behind it on Instagram using the two hashtags #nevercompromise #captureone. Deadline is Jan. 31.
- Lloyd Chambers has arranged a 25 Pct. Off Coupon Code for Software by LibRaw, including RawDigger, FastRawViewer and Monochrome2DNG. Use the code DIGLLOYD25.
- In Big Mistakes Into Small Opportunities, Greenberg & Reznicki write, "What we keep seeing by photographers who keep making big mistakes from small opportunities, especially when they discuss infringement issues on social media." Free advice: don't do that.
