In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at the interior of Notre Dame, Martin Parr, NBA photographers, Colleen Scott, choosing a mirrorless lens and 10 common mistakes.
- In After the Fire, Alan Taylor presents nine photos the day after Notre Dame Cathedral burned. It's "a first look at the damage inside, including the preservation of a number of valuable artifacts and features among piles of debris and a heavily damaged roof."
- In Will Martin Parr's Photos Change Britain? He Doesn't Think So, Jonathan Blaustein examines the photographer's work on display at the National Portrait Gallery in London. "His willingness to see photography as entertainment set his work apart from the prior era's serious, concerned photojournalism," he writes.
- In NBA Photographers 'Do It for the Gram,' Too, Alex Wong talks to several pros about shooting the game today. Players want shots to post on Instagram and text the photographer on arrival at the arena. "What photographers do may seem minute," Vince Carter says after 21 years doing it. "But I've seen so many shots of the best moments of my career and in some ways, they've helped me remember those moments."
- Colleen Scott relates How I Became a Real Estate Photographer and drops eight tips to help you get started. There are three types of real estate photographers, she writes, "and it is important to figure out what category you want to fall into."
- In The Mirrorless Lens Conundrum, Thom Hogan attempts to answer the "should I get the f2.8 or the f4 lens" question for mirrorless camera owners. There's an interesting wrinkle in that.
- Erkan Yigiter lists 10 Common Photography Mistakes Newbies Make. "We all make mistakes and my intention is not to hurt your feelings," he notes at the start.
