In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at D-Day veterans, the Nikon AF-P 10-20mm f4.5-5.6 DX VR, Rocco Rorandelli, the Contact photography festival, Ringer Fellowships and a lens set.
- In D-Day Veterans: Now and Then, Christopher Furlong presents paired portraits of surviving veterans as the 75th anniversary of D-day approaches. A slider at the top of each current image reveals the younger portrait.
- Ming Thein sings the praises of the $280 Nikon AF-P 10-20mm f4.5-5.6 DX VR. It's the first of a series of "el cheapo reviews," as he puts it.
- Italian photographer Rocco Rorandelli has spent a decade Documenting the Tobacco Industry's Darkest Corners. Mark Murrmann interviews Rorandelli whose images will appear in book form as Bitter Leaves this July.
- In Photography Still Has the Potential to Reveal the Uniqueness of the Human Body, Seph Rodney visits the Contact photography festival in Toronto. "The most compelling pieces I encountered by far were a version of portraiture, searching and incantatory," he writes.
- Carolyn Wright announces the Copyright Office Announces Open Application Period for Ringer Fellowships. It's for "attorneys in the initial stages of their careers who demonstrate exceptional ability and interest in copyright law." According to our tipster, they're the guys with Leicas who are not dentists. We couldn't confirm that (our dentist has a Canon dSLR).
- In Choosing a Lens Set (And, Sony's Home Run), Mike Johnston considers what a working set of prime lenses might be these days. With lots of interesting optics notes, particularly in the comments. He also adds a Pre-Op Blog Note detailing his automated publishing schedule as he recovers from eye surgery. We wish him well.
