Sigma Announces Sigma fp Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

11 July 2019

Sigma has announced its development of the Sigma fp, a "pocketable" full-frame mirrorless camera designed "in a more flexible and true-to-life manner, without conforming to manufacturers' ideas of camera-centric categories and hierarchy," according to the company.

The body is covered on the front and back sides with die-cast aluminum alloy for its robustness and thermal conductivity. The compact body's signature heat sink structure also features sealing on 42 points for a dust- and splash-proof design.

HIGHLIGHTS

Sigma outlined the key concepts of the new design:

  • Pocketable Full-Frame Design. The "smallest and lightest body possible" with which one can express their creative ideas whenever they want, combined with a "full-frame sensor" that is suitable for serious occasions without compromising on image quality and "superb build quality" that makes the camera the perfect linchpin of a high-performance lens system.
  • Scalable. An "open system" that allows one to pair the camera with not only Sigma lenses but also other lenses and accessories, whether from Sigma or other brands, using a variety of attachments, complete with "ultimate versatility and scalability" that makes the camera adaptable to any scenes.
  • Seamless. A "highly intuitive UI" that allows one to move between full-fledged still and video shooting modes with just one finger, making for a "seamless and truly creative tool" that goes beyond style and genre differences.

COLOR MODES

Twelve color modes are available, including Standard, Vivid, Neutral, Portrait, Landscape, Cinema, Teal & Orange, Sunset Red, Forest Green, FOV Classic Blue, FOV Classic Yellow and Monochrome.

The Sigma fp introduces a "Teal and Orange" color mode inspired by the color grading technique commonly used in Hollywood films. Each color mode has a slider to adjust the strength of the effect. The Sigma fp is the first Sigma camera to employ a tone curve adjustment function in camera in addition to Fill Light.

It has introduces Tone and Color buttons for a quick access to each of the tone control and color mode menus.

Sigma Unveils Sigma fp Full-Frame Mirrorless Camera

The Smallest and Lightest Full-Frame Mirrorless Digital Camera

With dimensions of 112.6x69.9x45.3mm and body weight of 370g, the all-new Sigma fp is the world's smallest and lightest full-frame mirrorless digital camera. It is equipped with a 35mm Bayer full-frame sensor with 24.6 megapixels in a compact body. Suitable for everyday use by photographers of all skill levels, from novices to the most discerning professionals, the Sigma fp produces images that are of the highest quality, capable of supporting both serious still and cine shooting.

The Sigma fp is purpose-built with durability in mind. Its dust and splash-proof body make it ideal for long hours in various shooting environments. The absence of a mechanical shutter removes the potential for noise and shutter shock while increasing reliability. The Sigma fp uses the L-mount, characterized by a short flange focal length, large diameter and superior durability. In addition to the wide-ranging choices of Sigma lenses, other manufacturers' lenses can be used through the L-Mount Alliance with Leica Camera AG and Panasonic Corp. With the Sigma Mount Converter MC-21, Sigma SA mount and Sigma Canon EF mount lenses can also be used.

By supporting 12-bit CinemaDNG external recording for Raw video data and 4K UHD/24fps recording, the Sigma fp is capable of full-fledged video production. Alternating between still and cine shooting modes is possible with a simple flip of a switch. Each mode comes with a specially designed operation system and displays, making it possible to concentrate on shooting in each mode, stress-free.
