In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Tami Bahat, Alessio Mamo, couples poses, cameras for hiking, cold brew and fitness.

  • In These Intimate Scenes Will Take You Back to the Victorian Era, Christina Nafziger presents elaborately staged images by Tami Bahat from her series Dramatis Personae. Bahat's exhibit Past Is Present is currently showing at the Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago.
  • Sicilian Fishermen Risk Prison to Rescue Migrants: 'No Human Would Turn Away' features three images by Alessio Mamo. "I wonder if even one of our politicians has ever heard desperate cries for help at high sea in the black of night," Gaspare Giarrantano says. "I would have been haunted until my death and maybe even beyond, by those desperate cries for help," his son Carlo adds. The two rescued 50 migrants on a dinghy. "When the migrants were safely aboard the Coast Guard ship," Carlo says, "they all turned to us in a gesture of gratitude, hands on their hearts."
  • In Create Dozens of Unique Couples Poses From These Three Basic Prompts, Hillary Grigonis collects a few tips that can, with small adjustments, turn into a catalog of poses.
  • Laurence Noah lists The Best Camera for Hiking and Backpacking (we had to use Reader view to actually read the piece).
  • Derrick Story shares his recipe for Cold Brew (it's French Pressed coffee), which revs his engine in the afternoon. You will have to plan ahead, however.
  • And in a similar vein, Kirk Tuck shares his Approach to Healthy Living. It's essential to his business, he points out. "I find commercial photography (especially working outside on locations) to be physically demanding." Keeping fit can avoid a lot of trouble.

More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
