In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Greenland, Profoto, Lightroom sharpening, transparent backgrounds and working with models.
- Alan Taylor assembles 16 photos of A Heatwave in Greenland. "On Thursday alone, an estimated 12.5 billion tons of meltwater flowed into the ocean," he notes, "which would be the highest single-day total since 1950, according to Ted Scambos, a senior researcher at the National Snow and Ice Data Center, quoted in The Washington Post."
- Zach Sutton compares the Profoto B1X to the Profoto B10 & Profoto B10 Plus to find out "what is each light's specific demographic." He considers recycle time, portability, power and cost-to-power ratio.
- Jim Kasson makes an adventure of GFX 100 Sharpening in Lightroom, illuminating Lightroom sharpening itself.
- Hillary Grigonis explains How to Make a Background Transparent in Photoshop -- Without Going Crazy. We give Select Subject a big thumbs up ourselves. But she takes it further by explaining how to refine the selection.
- Victoria Pavlov lists Five Best Practices You Need to Have in Your Pocket When Working With Models. "I implemented these five best practices in my studio, which made my model photography workflow much easier," she writes.
