6x6 Global Talents Announced From South America

The World Press Photo Foundation has launched the second cycle of its 6x6 Global Talent Program in South America. Six winners were selected from among over 100 nominations.
The six selected visual storytellers are:
- Johanna Andrea Alarcón Alvarez, Ecuador
- Andrés Cardona Cruz, Colombia
- Felipe Jácome, Ecuador
- Prin Rodriguez, Peru
- Liz Tasa Palomino, Peru
- Marcos Zegers, Chile
SELECTION COMMITTEE
Nominations for visual storytellers from South America were made by the international community of 6x6 nominators.
Together with Lars Boering, World Press Photo Foundation, managing director, the online selection committee comprised Veronica Cordeiro (Brazil), curator and writer; Joana Toro, (Colombia), photographer; Francois Laso (Ecuador), photographer, researcher and lecturer; and Ros Boisier (Chile), researcher, editor and co-director Muga and LUR.
PRIZES
In addition to exhibition opportunities, the work of the six talents will also be published and shared on the World Press Photo Foundation's platforms, including a feature on our online magazine Witness for each of the talents. The 6x6 talents also receive an automatic nomination for World Press Photo's prestigious Joop Swart Masterclass.
The next region in this second cycle of the 6x6 Global Talent Program is Europe.

The World Press Photo Foundation is proud to announce the results of the second cycle of the 6x6 Global Talent Program in South America. Selected from over 100 nominations, the six visual storytellers are:

Selection Committee
Nominations for visual storytellers from South America were made by the international community of 6x6 nominators. From the nominees' submitted portfolios, a selection committee picked six visual storytellers -- three men and three women -- to join the pool of 6x6 talents from around the world.
Together with Lars Boering, World Press Photo Foundation, managing director, the online selection committee comprised Veronica Cordeiro (Brazil), curator and writer; Joana Toro, (Colombia), photographer; Francois Laso (Ecuador), photographer, researcher and lecturer; and Ros Boisier (Chile), researcher, editor and co-director Muga and LUR.

- On nominating Johanna Andrea Alarcón Alvarez, Federico Rios (Colombia), photographer and 6x6 nominator, said: "Johanna is not just dedicated to being a photographer but also to multiplying the knowledge she has acquired during her career among other young photographers from Ecuador and Latin American countries."
- On nominating Andrés Cardona Cruz, Stephen Ferry, photographer and 6x6 nominator said: "I have never seen a narrative of the Colombian conflict so intimately rooted in personal experience and yet so universally understandable as to transcend the anguish of his own family."
- On nominating Felipe Jácome, Gato Villegas Sanchez (Ecuador), photographer, festival organizer and 6x6 nominator, said: "Felipe generates interesting dialogues with non-traditional aesthetics and documentary photography, which allows expanding the narrative and aesthetic possibilities of the medium."
- On nominating Prin Rodriguez, Showkat Nanda (India), photographer and 6x6 nominator, said: "Rodriguez's work takes us to a different and innovative form of storytelling. She gives us a sense of how differently photography can convey emotions."
- On nominating Liz Tasa Palomino, Raúl García Pereira (Peru), photographer and 6x6 nominator, said: "In Tasa Palomino's photos, poetry and Raw metaphor flow in harmony to speak about invisible scars. Empathy and sensitivity are among her best credentials."
- On nominating Marcos Zegers, Miguel Angel Larrea (Chile), photography editor, co-Director of FIFV Festival in Chile, Director of HUMO Agency and 6x6 nominator, said: "I nominated Marcos Zegers due to his evolution as a photographer, which has led him to approach photographic projects with a different perspective from a contemporary and multidisciplinary perspective."
