In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at photos of the week, a five-year-old's vision, Fujifilm, the Pelican 1557 case, the FogCam saved and Sony's Alpha Female program.
- Alan Taylor collects his usual assortment of stunning photos of the week, this time featuring Alpine Opera, Japanese Dunes, Weed Museum and much more.
- Los Angeles to San Diego by Train sees the world through five-year-old eyes. Oscar Mckinley's mother Elizabeth Weinberg gave him a disposable camera and even let him use her digital camera to make memories.
- Fujifilm has been making some converts lately. We've pointed out Kirk Tuck's Fujifilm acquisitions before but this week Mike Johnston reveals his Fujifilm X-H1 Current Impressions, which the company has currently discounted to under $1,000, and Lloyd Chambers suggests landscape photographers like himself Go With Fujifilm GFX 100, Not Sony A7R IV. Chambers likes the GFX 100 so much he has even asked his readers to Buy Lloyd a Fujifilm GFX 100. At $10K, that's not a small ask. Before he took the month off, Thom Hogan published a number of Fujifilm articles himself, among them his sobering Fujifilm X-H1 Camera Review in which the Nikon D5 outperforms the current darling at least in autofocus performance.
- In I Had to Check My Cameras, Kevin Raber uses a Pelican 1557 case to get his gear where he was going after back surgery.
- Caroline Smith reports SF State Saves FogCam, the longest-running webcam. "Monique Beeler, an S.F. State spokeswoman, confirmed that the university will take over maintaining the FogCam and thereby preventing the scheduled end of its run," she writes.
- Sony is now accepting applications for its Alpha Female Creator-in-Residence Program.
