In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Albert Frisch, Hugh Mangum, Zoe Ghertner, Nathan Wirth, shooting the Blue Angels, an Apple Photos trick, Jonathan Calm and tomorrow's Worldwide Photo Walk.
- In Vintage Photos Offer Glimpse of Upper Amazon 150 Years Ago, BBC News has published a selection of Albert Frisch's 98 images that sold at auction by Sotheby's in New York yesterday.
- Jonathan Blaustein flips through The Archive of Hugh Mangum, an itinerant photographer of the South who died in 1922. To keep costs down so ordinary people could afford his services, he made multiple exposures on his glass plates. And photographed Durham's prominent women without their clothes. Duke University hosts a digital collection of 781 Hugh Mangum photographs.
- Stephanie Wade presents a selection of images of Strong Women and mysterious landscapes by Los Angeles-based fashion photographer Zoë Ghertner.
- Nathan Wirth Captures the Ethereal Beauty of Streams Leading to the Sea with a wide angle lens in black and white looking into the light.
- Jim Goldstein lists 10 Aerial Photography Tips for Great Blue Angels Photos. Fleet Week begins next Sunday in the Bay area.
- Howard Oakley explains How to Get Photos to Show the Library Selection Dialog Each Time It Runs. Best bet is to create an Applescript that first changes the library chooser and then also opens Photos, as he suggests.
- Pier 24 will host a free lecture by Jonathan Calm at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco on Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. A central theme of Calm's work is the relationship between photography and urban architecture, and the powerful role of images in the way architectural constructs shape the lives of individuals and communities.
- In Last-Minute Tips for Tomorrow's Worldwide Photo Walk, Scott Kelby offers a few videos for walk leaders and attendees both. There's still time to find a walk and sign up.
