In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Freddy Warren, Valerie Belin, focusing in the dark, Photoshop for iPad, birthday parties and jack-o'-lantern photography.
- The Guardian set of Freddie Warren's photographs of The Glory Days of Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club are just a preview. Ronnie Scott's 1959-69: Photographs by Freddy Warren will be published in December on the club's 60th anniversary.
- Marigold Warner discusses Valérie Belin's Reflections of the Real and Imaginary, Belin's recent commission for the Victoria & Albert Museum inspired by the museum's photography collection.
- David Williams offers three ways of focusing Tack Sharp in the Dark.
- John Gruber reflects On the Upcoming Photoshop for iPad after the Bloomberg report on "missing features." He writes, "When Adobe described it as 'real' Photoshop, what a lot of people heard was 'full' Photoshop and that was never the plan." Not for the first release, anyway.
- 12 Essential Photography Tips for Capturing Birthday Parties suffers from the delusion that only young children have birthdays. We predict a surprise in store for the author.
- In Creative Lighting for Your Pumpkins, Julie Powell has some advice about lighting gourds more than jack-o'-lanterns. Fortunately, Ben Long revealed The Secret to Spooky Jack-O-Lantern Photos a few years ago.
