In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at nature photography contest winners, Photoshop for iPad road map, scanning, faded film shots, Jessie Wender, lens filters and Macintosh options.
- The BBC has published winners from its Nature Photographer of the Year 2019 contest.
- In Photoshop Reimagined for iPad: The Journey, Pam Clark reveals Adobe's road map through the first half of next year for the new app.
- George Schaub, former executive editor of Popular Photography and editorial director of Shutterbug Magazine, continues The Scanning Project with part two. "While you might think the first thing to do is run out and buy a good scanner," he begins. "Hold off: the most time consuming and crucial part of the process is figuring out what you want to scan and then pick your scanner."
- Derrick Story shows how to Restore Faded Film Shots in Three Easy Steps using Photos for macOS. You can also use the image editing software of your choice with his approach.
- Miss Rosen interviews Photography Juror Jessie Wender, Photo Editor at the New York Times. "I remember photographer's personal projects and it's often what makes me think of them when I'm considering a commission," Wender says in recommending photographers take on a personal project.
- In We All Need a Lens Filter, Sheen Watkins explains why three kinds of filters are useful to landscape photographers. Those include circular polarizers, neutral density filters and graduated density filters.
- Lloyd Chambers offers some free advice on Choosing Between the Apple 2019 Mac Pro vs. 2019 MacBook Pro 16-Inch and Expected 2020 iMac Pro. He's sticking with the iMac for travel needs but discusses cores, memory, GPU and connectivity.
