In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Max Zerrahn, the Getty, the Sandor Collection, Julieanne Kost, spring, Selma Fernandez Richter, photo challenges and the photo community.
- In Max Zerrahn Pushes Back Against Our Culture of Distraction by Deftly Photographing Banality, Stephanie Wade showcases images from the Berlin-based photographer's photo book Snake Legs. "It's street photography in a very non-confrontational sense: anonymous scenes and weird little details," he says.
- Caitlin Shamberg explains How to Explore Art While the Getty Galleries Are Closed. That includes their photographic holdings, which include dozens of early photo books.
- To pay tribute to Women's History Month, the Sandor Collection is highlighting its most accomplished women photographers and striking works depicting women's contributions to Western culture with a new section on their Web site, Celebrating Women in Photography.
- In a new installment of her 3, 2, 1, Photoshop! series, Julieanne Kost demonstrates How to Capture Patterns, Shapes, Colors and Gradients From Images in Photoshop:
- Dave Williams reminds us Spring Is Around the Corner with a list of recommendations for enjoying it through your lens.
- Heidi Volpe talks to Selma Fernandez Richter, who worked with Mary Ellen Mark, about her La Luz Workshops. "It is so important that photographers invest the time to really understand, speak the language and learn to make better negotiations when commissioned to create new work, granting licensing rights for their images or when publishing their projects, to mention a few of the topics that the workshop covers," she says.
- Jason Little lists Fun Photography Challenge Ideas. "Challenging yourself can actually be fun and it doesn't require you to run off to the Amazon rainforest to experience real growth," he writes.
- In Coronavirus: How You Can Help the Photography Community and Beyond, the British Journal of Photography offers some ideas on how to support photographers and what photographers can do to help others.
More to come! Meanwhile, please support our efforts...
