Phase One Introduces Cultural Heritage iXH Camera System Share This on LinkedIn   Tweet This   Forward This

25 March 2020

Phase One has announced its iXH 150-Mp Camera System high resolution single-shot imaging technology designed for high volume cultural heritage digitization projects by museums, libraries and other large organizations.

"The iXH 150-Mp Camera System is the ultimate solution that answers the needs of our most demanding customers," said Dov Kalinski, CEO of Phase One Industrial. "It combines breakthrough innovation from Phase One with best in class technology. As the demand grows for digital preservation of priceless treasures, we are building the tools to take on the toughest jobs."

DETAILS

The key innovation is the ability of the new system to scan large flat documents in a single exposure, saving the time usually required to scan them.

Built around a 151-Mp CMOS backside illuminated sensor, the iXH 150-Mp camera delivers the highest available image resolution, enabling it to reach the benchmark of 33.1x46.8 inches at 300 ppi scanning for large flat objects like maps and drawings in a single shot. The sensor's 15-stop dynamic range boosts light sensitivity with very low noise, the company said.

The new Phase One-designed 72mm lens is sharp at all magnifications, using the company's UltraRes technology, optimized for 150-Mp and beyond. Both this new Phase One 72mm MkII and Schneider Kreuznach 120mm lenses offer the highest available resolution, flatness, sharpness and little to no distortion, to maintain color uniformity. Extension tubes of 21mm and 42mm for the 120mm lens have been designed for close ups at higher resolution, ideal for capturing small objects and 35mm film.

Phase One iXH 150-Mp Camera System Presents a Breakthrough for Cultural Heritage Digitization Projects

Instant Capture Technology Sets a New Quality Standard for Archival Reproduction

COPENHAGEN -- Phase One has launched the iXH 150-Mp Camera System with breakthrough high resolution single shot capture imaging technology, setting a new standard in efficiency and accuracy for high fidelity, high volume cultural heritage digitization projects.

Built around a 151-Mp CMOS backside illuminated sensor, the iXH 150-Mp camera delivers the highest available image resolution -- enabling it to reach the benchmark of A0@300ppi scanning for flat objects, such as maps and drawings, in a single shot. The sensor's dynamic range (15 f-stops) boosts light sensitivity with very low noise, to capture the smallest details and delivers unmatched color fidelity -- rendering the exquisite accuracy required for preserving valuable artworks and precious books.

Its industrial build quality makes the iXH 150-Mp a high-volume workhorse, providing the fastest and most reliable data transfer via USB-C and 10-GB Ethernet options and flexible connectivity. This is enabled by the Infinity platform -- a completely new powerful processing engine. The camera's electromagnetic mechanical reliance shutter guarantees at least one million actuations and when using the electronic shutter this becomes virtually unlimited. The entire system is designed to maintain low working temperature, even during long days of continuous operation, ensuring consistent results.

Fully Automated, Repeatable Workflow

PPI-Assist functionality of the iXH 150-Mp Camera System accurately measures the distance to the object, records pixels per inch, Field-of-View and magnification, enabling easy positioning of the camera on any copy stand. In addition, when used with Phase One AutoColumn copy stands and Capture One CH, it is the only camera system on the market capable of automated positioning for a specified PPI.

Capture One CH offers complete camera control, reliable performance and expertly crafted Raw conversion algorithms, accompanied with unique productivity tools such as automatic cropping and alignment tools for documents and books and an automated workflow for scanning negative film, saving precious time.

Brand New UltraRes 72mm Lens

A brand new Phase One-designed 72mm lens allows perfect sharpness at all magnifications, using groundbreaking UltraRes technology, optimized for 150-Mp and beyond. Both this new Phase One 72mm MkII and Schneider Kreuznach 120mm lenses offer the highest available resolution, flatness, sharpness and little to no distortion, to maintain color uniformity. Two extension tubes -- 21mm and 42mm -- for the 120mm lens have been designed for close ups at higher resolution, ideal for capturing small objects and 35mm film.

Versatility for Scientific Applications

The iXH 150-Mp Camera System and Capture One CH offer an open platform for new imaging applications. The iXH 150-Mp is also available in Achromatic and Wide Spectrum variations. Adding special accessories, advanced capabilities and focusing accuracy opens doors to computational and sequential imaging that are indispensable to a range of applications.
