Saturday matinees long ago let us escape from the ordinary world to the island of the Swiss Family Robinson or the mutinous decks of the Bounty. Why not, we thought, escape the usual fare here with Saturday matinees of our favorite photography films?

So we're pleased to present the 341st in our series of Saturday matinees today: This Land.

This three-minute video by Adam Pass dances to Woody Guthrie singing This Land Is Your Land. Pass developed the project to celebrate Earth Day a few days ago. Not only is it well cut but the images captured via drone are mesmerizing.

Pass tells the story behind the footage:

Two years ago I worked on a very memorable cross country project for Timex with director Christopher Loren Ewers. I captured the drone footage for this project. With some of my extra time I finally edited together a personal clip from the raw footage. Looking forward to exploring our beautiful country again and continuing to collaborate with all of the amazing creators out there. Happy Earth Day.

That whirring sound at the beginning is the drone taking off at the beginning (and landing at the end). The twanging sound in between is Guthrie.

The drone footage is, as Pass noted, of locations from all across the country. Which is just what Gurthrie was singing about. Our land. Our earth. Right under our feet.
