In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at a print sale, another print sale, images from the Hubble, mirrorless Ming, Giphy, Serif extends deals and the Files app.
- An Eye for Vulnerability showcases a few of the images for sale by female photographers to raise money for women affected by the Covid-19 pandemic at The Female Gaze Print Sale.
- Robby Klein explores the prints for sale via Art for Assistants, an effort to raise money for "photo assistants out of work due to Covid-19."
- In Explore 30 Years of Arresting Images Captured by the Hubble Space Telescope, Anna Marks highlights a few images from Expanding Universe: The Hubble Space Telescope, the updated title with 30 new images to celebrate the anniversary.
- Ming Thein reflects on going Fully Mirrorless, Six Months In. He has no regrets but does have images "I couldn't have done before."
- In From Giphy With Love, Paul Melcher argues, "Any visual content platform is a direct and life-threatening adversary to Facebook." And Giphy, serving 7 billion GIFs a day, was therefore an attractive acquisition for the company. "This deal only confirms that whoever controls visual content controls online audiences," he writes.
- Serif has extended its 90-day free trial and 50 percent discount on its products like Affinity Photo until June 20. "Many businesses, schools and colleges are still closed and we're still seeing a large number of people taking up the trial to get free access to the tools they need," the company explained.
- How to Connect External Storage Drive to iPad & iPhone shows how to use the Files app with various external storage devices, including SMB servers.
