In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Mike Broomfield, a sports shortlist, Nicola Harger, Excire Foto, ICC profiles for commercial labs, smartphone accessories and a free Father's Day template.

  • In Silo City Reflections, Mike Broomfield describes his images of the Buffalo relics "in a little more depth."
  • The World Sports Photography Awads Shortlist has been announced. Images are grouped into eight categories: Joy, Precision, Speed, Focus, Determination, Power, View and Celebration.
  • Nicola Harger tells The Story of Working With Square and how luck played into landing her dream job. "My dream work is when photography is combined with social issues and radical movements that I deeply care about and that is truly what brings so much meaning and substance for me behind the camera," she writes. Square made it happen.
  • Excire has announced Excire Foto [MW], a stand-alone app for managing your photos that uses the advanced image and face recognition first deployed in Excire Search to analyze and tag photos. A free trial will be available in July, according to the Web site. An email announcing the €69 utility quoted an introductory price of €49 for four weeks. We'll try to clarify the situation. (Update: This is a European release. North America will follow.)
  • Dry Creek Photo has posted a database of digital printing lab ICC profiles, mostly for Fujifilm Frontier and Noritsu digital printers like those used at Costco.
  • Six Great Smartphone Camera Accessories covers a wide range of accessories from gimbals to microphones.
  • Vivid-Pix has posted a tutorial on how to Create a Photo Card for Dad This Father's Day with a free template, just as the company did for Mother's Day.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
