African 6x6 Global Talents Announced

The World Press Photo Foundation has announced the results of the second cycle of the 6x6 Global Talent Program in Africa. Selected from 76 nominations, the six visual storytellers are:
- Amilton Neves Cuna, Mozambique
- Esther Ruth Mbabazi, Uganda
- Etinosa Yvonne, Nigeria
- M'hammed Kilito, Morocco
- Seif Kousmate, Morocco
- Zinyange Auntony, Zimbabwe
SELECTION COMMITTEE
Nominations for visual storytellers from Africa were made by the international community of 6x6 nominators. From the nominees' submitted portfolios, a selection committee picked six visual storytellers -- three men and three women -- to join the pool of 6x6 talents from around the world.
Together with Lars Boering, World Press Photo Foundation's managing director, the online selection committee comprised: Azu Nwagbogu, founder and director of African Artists' Foundation; Christina Rizk, photojournalist; and Sarah Waiswa, photographer.
PRIZES
In addition to exhibition opportunities, the work of the six talents will also be published and shared on the World Press Photo Foundation's platforms, including a feature on our online magazine Witness for each of the talents. The 6x6 talents also receive an automatic nomination for World Press Photo's prestigious Joop Swart Masterclass.
The next region in this second cycle of the 6x6 Global Talent Program is North and Central America.
World Press Photo Foundation Announces 6x6 Talents From Africa
The World Press Photo Foundation is proud to announce the results of the second cycle of the 6x6 Global Talent Program in Africa. Selected from 76 nominees from 23 different countries, the six visual storytellers are:

- Esther Ruth Mbabazi, Uganda
- Etinosa Yvonne, Nigeria
- M'hammed Kilito, Morocco
- Seif Kousmate, Morocco
- Zinyange Auntony, Zimbabwe

On nominating Amilton Neves Cuna, Nii Obodai Provencal, photographer and 6x6 nominator, said: "Through his images and storytelling, Amilton gives a voice to those who have been marginalized or relegated into the invisible realms of Mozambique's turbulent and violent independence struggle."
On nominating Esther Ruth Mbabazi, Tina Ahrens, director of Photography, Philosophie magazine and 6x6 nominator, said: "Esther has a fine sensibility for the changes happening in her country and beyond."
On nominating Etinosa Yvonne, Gulshan Khan, independent photographer and 6x6 nominator, said: "Etinosa is a thoughtful and rigorous storyteller and it shows in her work."
On nominating M'hammed Kilito, Olivier Laurent, foreign photo editor, The Washington Post and 6x6 nominator, said: "M'hammed Kilito is a Moroccan photographer with a stunning visual style, as well as a thirst for finding new ways of telling stories."
On nominating Seif Kousmate, Jeanne Mercier, art consultant, critic, curator and 6x6 nominator, said: "In only a few years, Seif Kousmate has developed a very beautiful, sensitive social documentary work. Although his work often documents difficult subjects, he succeeds in avoiding the cliche[!]s of photojournalism."
On nominating Zinyange Auntony, John Stanmeyer, photographer, filmmaker, field recordist and 6x6 nominator, said: "Zinyange Auntony's talent, commitment and purpose are special. I have followed his work for years and I highly recommend him as a 6x6 talent."
