In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Thomas Hoepker, Albet Eckstein, Guillem Vidal, a re-opening strategy, Stan Evans, Nikon's Noct, Photoshop Camera, Adobe updates and making a photography zine.

  • Magnum photographer Thomas Hoepker's early black-and-white work is featured in an online exhibition at Bildhalle gallery in Zurich. The Guardian has published a healthy selection of the images.
  • Saving Turkey's Children is a collection of Albet Eckstein's photographs of the country's poorest children in the 1930s after he was exiled from Germany. The collection is now free to explore at the Cambridge Digital Library.
  • Spanish photographer Guillem Vidal has photographed The Forgotten Playgrounds Invaded by Nature. "These spaces, once alive but now forgotten, are today invaded by nature in their slow transformation into ruins," he says.
  • Kirk Tuck shares his Photography Business Re-Opening Strategy. After disinfecting the studio, he writes, "With a 135mm lens or the 70-200mm lens on a high resolution, full frame camera I'll be able to work outside the six foot circumference around the subject to keep both of us safe." On Aug. 1, if the coronavirus doesn't have anything to say about it.
  • Heidi Volpe interviews Stan Evans about his Social Studies Show podcast on advertising and activism. "What if I could create a living library of information for minorities and women (really anyone) who were passionate about advertising and driven toward activism?" he asked himself.
  • Nikon's 58mm F/0.95 Noct lens would have been "outlandishly enormous" if, as planned, it could autofocus, Andy Day reports. He compares Nikon's "museum piece: to fast 50mm primes from Canon, TTartisan and Leica that are significantly less expensive.
  • In What Is Photoshop Camera? Hillary Grigonis takes a tour of the new app.
  • Julienne Kost covers today's release of Lightroom Classic v9.3 while Scott Kelby highlights the Photoshop release.
  • Jason Little explains in general How to Make Your First Photography Zine, listing a few resources to pursue if you'd like to make a small booklet of your images. "Zines are made with simple materials and tools and can be easily distributed to their target audience," he writes.

More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look five years back. And please support our efforts...
