15 September 2020

Nikon Corp. has announced two new Nikkor Z S lenses for its full-frame mirrorless Z cameras. They include a fast 50mm f1.2 prime and a 14-24mm f2.8 zoom.

NIKKOR 50 1.2

The new prime "balances outstanding resolution and the beautiful bokeh of a shallow depth of field to realize a clear sense of perspective, while achieving the f1.2 maximum aperture," the company said.

Nikon said the lens offers superior resolution from the center of the frame to the edges while the soft bokeh, possible with a maximum aperture of f1.2, exhibits very little color fringing, providing a soft, dreamy feeling to the image.

Nikon releases the Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 S, a fast, standard prime lens for the Nikon Z mount system

Exhibits outstanding rendering performance and enables smooth and beautiful bokeh

TOKYO -- Nikon Corp. has announces the release of the fast, standard prime lens Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 S, that is compatible with full-frame (Nikon FX-format) mirrorless cameras for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted.

The Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 S is a fast, standard prime AF lens that has a maximum aperture of f1.2, provides outstandingly beautiful and smooth bokeh and is part of the S-Line$*1. By attaining an ideal lens structure with perfect symmetry in front of and behind, the aperture, the lens balances outstanding resolution and the beautiful bokeh of a shallow depth of field to realize a clear sense of perspective, while achieving the f1.2 maximum aperture. Users can enjoy a more three-dimensional appearance in their photos and videos, with portrait photography as well as other scenes.

In addition, the lens offers superior resolution from the center of the frame to the edges, permitting users to frame their subject in the way that best suits their intent. What's more, the soft bokeh, possible only with a maximum aperture of f1.2, exhibits very little color fringing, which further enhances the primary subject and enables the expression of a soft, dreamy feeling to the image.

Adoption of a multi-focusing system provides extremely fast and accurate AF performance. Accurate focus can even be acquired with the shallow depth of field available at the f1.2 maximum aperture. Furthermore, the Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 S is the first lens among interchangeable lenses for full-frame digital cameras with a maximum aperture of f1.2 to employ stepping motors (STMs), which realize smooth and quiet focusing with video recording. When the lens is used in combination with the Z series' Eye-Detection AF function, maintaining sharp focus on the subject's eye becomes easier, even when photographing moving subjects during portrait photography.

Nikon will continue to pursue a new dimension in optical performance while meeting users' needs, contributing to the development of imaging culture, with the hope of expanding possibilities for imaging expression.

Nikkor Z 50mm f1.2 S Primary Features

Nikon releases the fast, ultrawide-angle zoom lens Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8 S for the Nikon Z mount system

Balances superior portability and outstanding rendering performance

TOKYO -- Nikon Corp. (Nikon) is pleased to announce the release of the fast, ultrawide-angle zoom lens Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8 S that is compatible with full-frame (Nikon FX-format) mirrorless cameras for which the Nikon Z mount has been adopted.

The Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8 S is a fast, ultrawide-angle zoom lens that is part of the S-Line of Nikkor Z lenses. Throughout the entire zoom range, a constant fast maximum aperture of f2.8 is maintained while delivering incredibly sharp and clear rendering performance from maximum aperture and throughout the entire frame. It is the world's shortest and lightest lens in its class, with a length of approximately 124.5mm and a weight of approximately 650 g. The Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8 S is the perfect lens for a wide variety of landscapes, from starry skies and mountain scenes to cityscapes. It allows users to enjoy recording of both stills and videos, with the realistic and dynamic expression characteristic of ultrawide-angle lenses.

Additionally, in comparison to the AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm f2.8-GB ED, point-image reproduction of point light sources, as well as backlight resistance which effectively suppresses ghost and flare even under harsh lighting conditions, have both improved drastically. Despite being an ultrawide-angle lens with a maximum aperture of f2.8, adoption of a lens with aspherical surfaces on both sides for the front-most element has realized a front surface that is very nearly flat. This enables the attachment of filters via the dedicated lens hood, responding to a variety of photographers' needs.

What's more, in pursuit of operability for video shooting in addition to still-image shooting, stepping motors (STMs) and a control ring have been adopted, supporting smooth operability and quietness. The outstanding rendering performance characteristic of S-Line lenses can be enjoyed in video shooting as well.

The Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8 S joins the Nikkor Z 24-70mm f2.8 S and Nikkor Z 70-200mm f2.8 VR S to cover the wide-angle, standard and telephoto ranges, greatly expanding the possibilities of imaging expression for high amateur and professional photographers alike.

Nikon will continue to pursue a new dimension in optical performance while meeting users' needs, contributing to the development of imaging culture, with the hope of expanding possibilities for imaging expression.

Nikkor Z 14-24mm f2.8 S Primary Features
