In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Oregon, Rene Burri, the New Nikon 14-24mm f2.8, full-frame lenses, a disability, a model's lament, infringement, firmware and a free air quality macro.
- Alan Taylor presents 33 photos of Oregon Communities Devastated by Wildfires, including the cities of Molalla, Talent, Detroit, Ashland, Estacada.
- Moments That Can Never Come Back collects the "come colorful side" of Swiss photographer René Burri's work.
- Chris Gampat explains Why the New Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 S for Z Mount Is So Exciting. Two lens hoods? Yep, one for filters. "But one of the coolest things about is how the autofocus works. It uses dual STM motors," he writes.
- In Yes, Full Frame Cameras Are Shrinking, but Lenses Are Lenses, Derrick Story points out there's no getting around the glass full frame requires.
- In My Journey: My Disability Become My Invincibility, portrait photographer Zaria Love describes being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. "I figured that I can continue with photography. My new journey started at that moment," she writes.
- Model Emily Ratajkowski describes the trial of Buying Myself Back after being sued "for posting a photo of myself on Instagram that had been taken by a paparazzo." Yeah, can't do that. But there's something unsavory about what happened to her all the same.
- Dahlia Ambrose discusses How to Protect Your Photos From Being Stolen Online. We always urge the metadata approach over watermarking because it proves tampering when removed and doesn't penalize all viewers.
- Howard Oakley explains some Firmware Fundamentals for Macs, although the principles generally apply, even to the rare camera firmware update.
- We've posted our free Air Quality Macro that can display the current situation of multiple PurpleAir locations. You do need Keyboard Maestro to run it but the code is PHP that outputs HTML if you want to adapt it.
More to come! Meanwhile, here's a look back. And please support our efforts...
