In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Mark Seliger, William Neill, Jeff Schewe, camera collecting, Nikon's webcam utility for macOS, CineBloom diffusion filters, Facebook takedowns and the Nik Collection.
- Mark Seliger shares his Reflections on Photographing New York on Lockdown in his monochrome series Silence in the Streets. "There was the mysterious virus going around and creating an emptiness, but at the same time, everything else was evolving," he writes.
- In Focus Your Fall Portfolio, William Neill suggests you "think about creating a story line or clear thematic focus, for your work" this fall. Neill has just published Light on the Landscape and the article is full of his sumptuous images.
- Kevin Raber announced two Wednesday evening sessions of Raw Edits With Jeff Schewe Using Lightroom. Previously Raber showed how he edits Raw file in Capture One. The Schewe sessions begin Sept. 30.
- Mike Johnston lists three Books About Camera Collecting accompanied by a couple of amusing anecdotes on the subject and a pithy test to tell a collector from a hoarder.
- Nikon has released a beta version of their Webcam Utility software for macOS. Like the beta for Windows released in August, the free software allows compatible Nikon Z series and dSLR cameras to function as webcams.
- Moment announced CineBloom Diffusion Filters to capture "dreamy, film-like vibes straight out of a camera" in both cameras and phones.
- Ashley Carman reports Facebook Will Let People Claim Ownership of Images and Issue Takedown Requests.
- You can still get the Nik Collection for $99.99 (regularly $149) until Sept. 28.
