Datacolor has announced its new ColorReader EZ, a pocket-sized, Bluetooth-enabled color matching device you can use anywhere. Its smart color sensor communicates with an app to convert real world color into reproducible values.

Place the ColorReader EZ on a smooth, flat surface of the item you want to color match to instantly get the three most accurate color matches from leading paint manufacturing brands as well as precisely defined CIELAB, RGB and HEX color values.

The app runs on Android 6.0+ and iOS 9.3+. Bluetooth 4.0+ is required. The device itself, which measures 3.3 x 1.7 x 0.6 inches, runs on two coin batteries.

Highlights of the new tool include:

  • Incorporate measured color values into your work
  • Adjust background color to enhance images you are photographing
  • Capture color inspiration wherever you
  • Instantly match and identify client brand/product colors
  • Color match to the closest Savage Universal Seamless Background Paper color

Photographer John Walrath show how he used the ColorReader EZ in one of his creative projects in this article.

ColorReader EZ is available now directly from Datacolor for a special introductory price of $39 (regularly $59).
