In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Margaret Durow, velvet backgrounds, IR processing, correcting mixed lighting, Joe McNally and photos as paintings.
- In The Therapeutic Power of Photography Transforms Pain Into Beauty, Miss Rosen presents a series of images by American photographer Margaret Durow when she turned to photography to deal with spinal surgery. "Photography allows me to express how I feel and transform the pain and isolation of my deformed and disabled body into beauty and strength," Durow explains.
- Harold Davis bought some Velvet Backgrounds his wife Phyllis helped pick out. "Instead of letting the velvet backgrounds be mostly unnoticeable, I intentionally accented the curves and folds in the drapery of the fabric," he writes.
- In IR Images Without Demosaicing, Revisted, Jim Kasson uses two methods to process the IR data in a Raw file.
- Derrick Story demonstrates Correcting Mixed Lighting With Capture One Pro applying its color curve options and the Color Editor.
- In Getting Creative During These Times, Joe McNally reflects on last week's flash photography class with Scott Kelby.
- Jasenka Grujin lists a few ways to Turn a Picture Into a Painting With These Great Apps on several platforms. In case you need a great but affordable holiday gift idea.
