AIPAD To Host Virtual Photography Talks

The Association of International Photography Art Dealers will present six free AIPAD Talks in 2021 open to the public featuring noted curators, collectors, artists and dealers. The new AIPAD Talks series, which for the first time are not being held during the annual fair in April, are a continuation of the talks and education programs presented by AIPAD over its four decade history.

"We are excited to kick off AIPAD's celebrated educational initiative AIPAD Talks for," said Richard Moore, AIPAD president. "Over the years, AIPAD has become known for presenting compelling talks at its photography fairs and now has extended the opportunity to the global photography community."
ANNOUNCED TALKS
AIPAD announced the first three of the talks with additional talks still to be scheduled. In chronological order, they are:
Oh Tokyo! Moriyama, Tomatsu and Photography in Japan
Jan. 23, 1 p.m. EST
Speaker: Simon Baker, Director, Maison Européenne de la Photographie'sSimon Baker will introduce the MEP's upcoming exhibition Moriyama-Tomatsu: Tokyo, illustrated above, and discuss these leading figures of Japanese photography in a broader context, highlighting their relationship, their inspiration and their influence. Conceived originally by Daido Moriyama and Shomei Tomatsu themselves, this collaborative exhibition remained unrealized during the lifetime of Tomatsu. Through a major overview of the works of both Moriyama and Tomatsu, the exhibition highlights a shared fascination with the Japanese capital that both artists spent decades exploring.
Fotoclubismo: Brazilian Modernist Photography at MoMA

Speakers: Helouise Costa, curator and professor, Museum of Contemporary Art, University of São Paulo; Sarah Meister, curator, department of photography, Museum of Modern Art, New YorkHelouise Costa and Sarah Meister will discuss the upcoming exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Fotoclubismo: Brazilian Modernist Photography 1946-1964 explores the unforgettable creative achievements of São Paulo's Foto-Cine Clube Bandeirante, a group of amateur photographers whose ambitious and innovative works embodied the abundant originality of postwar Brazilian culture. Although their work was widely heralded by other artists, particularly in the 1950s, this is the first major museum exhibition to present this fascinating moment in photography's history to audiences outside of Brazil.

AIPAD Announces Launch of Virtual AIPAD Talks for 2021 Celebrating the Photography Organization's Four Decade History
The Association of International Photography Art Dealers will present a series of six AIPAD Talks in 2021, featuring noted curators, collectors, artists and dealers. Among the speakers will be curators from the Museum of Modern Art, New York; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; and High Museum, Atlanta. The new AIPAD Talks series, which for the first time are not being held during the annual fair in April, are a continuation of the talks and education programs presented by AIPAD over its four decade history.
The virtual schedule launches on Jan. 23, with former Tate photography curator Simon Baker, now director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris, who will discuss his upcoming exhibition on two leading photographers from Japan. In March, a talk with Sarah Meister, curator, Museum of Modern Art, New York and Helouise Costa, curator and professor, Museum of Contemporary Art, University of São Paulo, will focus on the museum's upcoming exhibition on Brazilian modernist photography.
