In this recurring column, we highlight a few items we've run across that don't merit a full story of their own but are interesting enough to bring to your attention. This time we look at Felix Odell, a Hirox 3D scan, portraits with masks, an eBay scam, the new White House photographer and the new FCC chair.
- In From the Fields of Sweden to the Valleys of Jordan, Stephanie Wade showcases the landscapes of Stockholm-based photographer Felix Odell. "Whether its mountain ranges, rocky deserts, the quiet depths of olive groves or the soft expanse of a rasp field, Odell's work provides the viewer with a connection to these areas that is felt as much as seen," she writes.
- Girl With a Pearl Earring was scanned with a Hirox 3D microscope at 4.4 microns per pixel and in 3D, yielding a 10-gigapixel sacn of Vermeer's painting:
- Kirk Tuck does his First Commercial, Location Project in a Month, a series of portraits at a law firm. "They agreed that everyone would be masked on my arrival and, since I'd photographed there before many times, they would just leave me to my own devices in the conference room setting up lighting for the group shot," he writes.
- Scott Kelby confesses, I Was One Click Away From Having My Camera Stolen!. It started with a post on his Facebook page.
- In Biden Names White House Photographer, Alex Weprin reports, "Adam Schultz will be the chief official White House photographer, after serving as the campaign's official photographer. Drew Heskett will be the presidential videographer, while Lawrence Jackson will be the photographer for the vice president." Schultz, Weprin suggests, shoots according to "the Souza model of candid, largely unfiltered photography."
- President Biden has designated Jessica Rosenworcel as acting chairwoman of the Federal Communications Commission. The FCC commissioner, who replaces Ajit Pai, has been a voice for protecting net neutrality and expanding the spectrum.
