PhotoShelter has announced it will host a free webinar titled The Social Effects of Photography on Friday, Feb. 19 at noon ET. The one-hour webinar will be a conversation with several black women photographers about documenting history through photographs.

The participants include Polly Irungu, the founder of Black Women Photographers, and independent photographers Dee Dwyer and Alexis Hunley. The discussion will include the importance of ethical practices in producing accurate stories.

Topics include:

  • How photography can be used as a tool for change
  • The idea of image making vs. image taking
  • Each speakers' plans for 2021
  • Insights into how the photo industry can better support Black photographers
